Good vibrations!

More electrifying work in Year 4 this week, we were testing items to find out whether they were insulators or conductors.

We had to make sure that the circuit worked before we tested the items!

Then we went on to learn about sound. Doogie showed us how the strings on his guitar vibrated when he strummed them.

We could see the vibrations ripple through the water when we used the baton on a triangle.

We also felt our voice boxes vibrate as we spoke! 4D enjoyed saying the register whilst gently pressing their voice boxes!

Lights camera action! So Year 4 are now poised with making an electrical safety video. Teams have been identifying dangers within the home, they have planned their script, started designing their setting ready for filming next week. We hope our videos can teach children in the Lower School about keeping safe around electricity within their homes.

In PSHE we were solving our problems and giving advice. It was so super to see how thoughtful and endearing they were with each other. What a lovely lot of trusted friends we have.

4W expressed their feelings through painting. Could we feel happy, sad, positive or calm today?

I am sure you are very happy that it is the weekend! Have a great time!

Ding Dong!

Look what we have made during our Science lessons this week!  Not only do they ring but light up too!  Our visitors are really enjoying ringing our doorbells before entering our classrooms!

I'm not sure whether we shared with you that we found a mysterious key in the woods last week whilst we were busy doing our dark dens.  Mr Campbell had a vague recollection of a missing key, but couldn't quite remember the details since it was such a long time ago. Mrs Teesdale wondered whether it belonged to the farmer who lived at Copthill Farm back in the1850s. So the children were challenged to do some exploring and delve deep into their imagination to come up with an idea of just where the key fitted and what it opened!

There were some wonderful ideas and Year 4 have written some amazing descriptive pieces all about the key and the lock it must belong to. These ranged from underground tunnels to portals to another world!

In maths we have been tackling division - with PASTA! It is amazing how many groups we could make with a few left over... we recognised that the amount left over was just as important as the amount groups!

In House-keeping club we were busy cleaning and buffing shoes and boots. We had some very pleased teachers and parents with all our efforts!

We have made some wonderful artwork showing postive and negative trees. A lot of careful planning and cutting out was involved. We were thrilled with our results!

Now doesn't that look rather snazzy?!

Have a wonderful weekend everybody!

What can you see?

What can you see?

Well it's all been about light and dark, clean and dirty with Year 4 this week!

We kick started the week in House-Keeping club with cleaning windows within the school as we didn't brave the elements outside as Storm Brendan had made an appearance that evening!  Using vinegar and newspaper, the children did a sterling job! . Our cleaners were very impressed and most grateful!

Doogie wowed us with his presentation on screens. His knowledge on the development of television screens from black and white to OLED was most impressive!

Off to the forest we went with a mission in mind... to build the darkest den. The children worked hard in their teams, lugging Christmas trees and branches to their dens and I am pleased to announce that after Mr Campbell had tested each one using a LUX meter they all achieve 0!  Complete blackout in each structure! Marvelous.

Have a fantastic weekend everyone - enjoy the sunshine!

Children in Need and Forest School Fun

We had a great time joining in with Joe Wicks at the end of his 24-hour workout for Children in Need.   Wow! Joe Wicks achieved his 2...
