Happy New Year!

Welcome back! We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas holiday and New Year. We have been sharing our holiday news and have written some lovely stories about our favourite part!

We explored our speaking and listening skills - the part where the partner had to pretend not to be listening was both amusing yet frustrating for the 'talker' as you can see!

We have been going around in circles in maths! Using compasses to draw them, learning the different parts of them and even drawing hexagons and triangles within them. It is certainly a skill to master the compass - Mrs Wallace, Mrs Pye and I have been very impressed with the children's persistence!

In PSHE we have been thinking about all the different ways we use to communicate with one another. We thought of many ways using the internet, social media, sign language, being a conductor - the list was endless! We then used our decoding skills to master some braille and morse code!

Our new topic this half term is Out of the Shadows. We looked at our shadows and have been exploring why they are so long!

 We have also been planning a puppet show which involved making some shadow puppets:

Lots of great new learning in 2020 so far! As you can see we have soon got back into the swing of things in Year 4! Have a great weekend everyone!

It's a wrap!

Golly - it was such a rush towards the end of term that I completely forgot to publish Year 4's final blog for this year!

So we started the week with a Roman march using our fantastic shields that the children made in DT with Mr Thomas:

There are some pretty mean looking legionaries there!

Our final week for House-keeping club included a collaboration with the Creative Club and Lego club. We had a rotation of activities which included making some fabulous paper stars with Mrs Over and some very funky and super cool festive glasses with Mrs Teesdale. We decorated and ate some festive gingerbread people!

What with the Stuff the Turkey prize draw, the Rotten Romans movie morning (with popcorn), our delicious Christmas lunch we were more than prepared for the festivities ahead! We finished off our week with a wonderful Upper School Carol Service. A poem and song from the Donkey's perspective were beautifully delivered by Year 4. It certainly helped to get us all in the Christmas spirit. 

Before we finished for the week, we made a card and delivered a present for our dinner ladies - they were thrilled to bits as we had drawn a picture of our favourite meal for them to see:

It's all been so sweet in Year 4 this week! A real hive of activity.

We did the most amazing assembeely on bees. We showcased our facts that we have researched indpendently, we demonstrated the waggledance and Doogie and Mrs Wallace shared their bee-keeping skills whilst being dressed in their suits! We were buzzing! We also made sure that the children were aware of how important bees are for the environment and that sadly their numbers are declining. We shared why this is happening and also how important it is for us to do our bit, by planting more flowers and maybe even owning our own hives!

We made the most delicious honey and chocolate chip cookies with Mrs Wallace, weighing out all the ingredients and mixing them carefully, shaping them into biscuits and popping them into the oven - et voila! The most delicious cookies were made and consumed!

We produced the most terrific collaborative bee picture for our bee displays. Each child had a piece in the bee puzzle to decorate using a selection of mediums. The finished piece was pretty unbeelievable!

You won't beelieve what we have been up to in Maths... It's all been about multiplication this week - mastering the grid method, tackling problems and investigations.

We have written explanations on how bees make honey, thinking about all the features of an explanation text and have included pictures and diagrams.
